Picture
Remember those wonderful lectures on Metabolic Syndrome at Lorain County Community College-Wellington Center this winter, before coronavirus wreaked havoc in all our lives? Well, thanks to LCCC, you now have fitness videos to exercise to during the pandemic. They focus on functional fitness, posture, mobility and other activities.

Whether you exercise outdoors or in the comfort of your own home, exercise is important during the coronavirus pandemic. Exercise reduces stress, anxiety and depression, especially during isolation. It increases blood circulation to the brain in areas that control motivation and mood, fear response to stress and memory formation.

Exercise has so many physical benefits, as well. Isolation and coronavirus fears can lead to greater calorie consumption, which could promote weight gain.

  • Exercise boosts the immune system: Research shows that regular, moderate-intensity exercise has immune-boosting benefits that may help your body fight off infections, including COVID-19.

  • Exercise may prevent weight gain: Exercise can help you burn extra calories caused by dietary changes and offset the effects of sedentary activities.
  • Exercise improves sleep: There is evidence that suggests regular exercise helps you fall asleep faster and improves sleep quality — and getting a good night’s sleep has also been found to boost your immune system.
