THRIVE! Turkey 5!For the first time in its seven-year history, THRIVE! Southern Lorain County is sponsoring an exciting “THRIVE! Turkey 5!” 5K Race and one-mile Fun Run.
The signature event kicks off on Thanksgiving morning at 9 a.m., November 23, 2023, with a fast flat course through the charming neighborhoods of Wellington. At 8:30 a.m. there will be a one-mile Fun Run for kids on the Football Stadium track. “The ‘THRIVE! Turkey 5!’ run-walk fits the THRIVE! mission, which focuses on healthy eating, active living and social/emotional support. It’s all to reduce the risks of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. With the run-walk we are encouraging people from all over southern Lorain County to kick-start their cold-weather exercise activities,” says Carol Burke, facilitator of THRIVE!. ”Come out, enjoy some exercise and get to know your neighbors,” she adds. All Age Groups Invited, Prizes
Age categories for the 5K include 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over. Age group winners will receive a handsome engraved mug. The first 200 registered walker-runners will receive an embroidered “beanie” with the 5K logo on it. There will be special prizes for the top three winners, both male and female. The registration fee for the 5K Run-Walk is $20, regardless of age. The Fun Run for kids is free (no beanies provided), although parents must still register their children. Interested parties should register online at https://bit.ly/ThriveTurkey5 or scan the QR code. People may also register at the event. Leashed dogs and strollers are welcome for the 5K Run-Walk only (not the Fun Run). Refreshments will be provided after the race.
