Build-a-Garden If you’ve ever wanted to start a garden but didn’t know how, the Build-a-Garden program is ideal. Launched by THRIVE! Partner Oberlin Community Services (OCS) in 2017, Build-a-Garden encourages people on limited incomes to grow and consume more fresh produce. Participants will receive such materials as seeds, soil, planters, gardening tools and on-the-ground garden boxes – all at no cost. The program also offers educational support in the form of workshops, educational materials and assistance from a gardener.
Special elevated garden beds will be built for seniors and others who face accessibility challenges. Those who don’t have access to a backyard will be offered planters, grow bags, hanging baskets and gardening soxx that can be placed in smaller spaces, such as on porches, balconies and railings.
For more information and to register, contact Ashley Frangos at OCS at 440-774-6579. To register for the 2020 program, you must apply by March 31 to allow time for ordering and the installation of materials. THRIVE! is funding the program.
