THRIVE! Turkey 5!THRIVE! Southern Lorain County held its first annual 5K Run-Walk on a brisk Thanksgiving Day morning on November 23, and 117 dedicated runners and walkers took off for the charming streets of Wellington.
Plenty of dogs joined the 3.1-mile course, as well. Before the 5K kicked off, THRIVE! hosted kids on a 1-Mile Fun Run at the Wellington High School Football Stadium track. “The first annual ‘THRIVE! Turkey 5!’ run-walk fit the THRIVE! mission, which focuses on healthy eating, active living and social/emotional support. It’s all to reduce the risks of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. With the run-walk we encouraged people from all over southern Lorain County to kick-start their cold-weather exercise activities,” said Carol Burke, facilitator of THRIVE!.
All Age GroupsAge categories for the 5K included 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over. Age and gender group winners received a handsome engraved mug. Yeti mugs were handed to second- and third-place winners. (See winner list top right.)
