A New Turnstile Opens
Up a Safe Track for
​Walkers, Runners ​

​Many Wellington runners and walkers take to the roads around Wellington for exercise – an unsafe situation. Now, they have access to the track at the Wellington High School Football Field, where they can enjoy a safe, smooth surface under foot. A new turnstile has been installed to give only those on foot access to the track, blocking bicycles and other wheel-type transportation.
 
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the track took place in September 2023 at the Football Field at 398 Dickson Street. Wellington Village Schools Superintendent Ed Weber; THRIVE! Facilitator Carol Burke; United Way of Greater Lorain County’s Community Impact Director Christine Matusik-Plas; Pat Murner and Dave Lengyel, 
​​THRIVE! members; Amy Bogan, Wellington Women’s League; and Ayers Ratliff, Wellington Schools Board Member, officiated.

Wellington High School’s Digital Media class, headed by teacher Dave Conklin, taped the ceremony. Following the ribbon-cutting, residents tested the turnstile out and walked the track for exercise.
 
At a cost of $4,839.73, the turnstile was purchased by THRIVE! Southern Lorain County. THRIVE! is grateful to the Wellington Women’s League for supporting the turnstile project through grant money. Celebrating its sixth anniversary this year, THRIVE! is funded by United Way of Greater Lorain County.
